Communication
Horses are nonverbal prey animals. Evolving in their present form for over six thousand years, they utilize a holistic body language that has protected them from predators and allowed them to prosper as allies of the human race. They are natural non-verbal communicators who utilize inner silent skills that are the foundation of all effective communication.
The human species' conceptual thinking skills set it apart from all other species. Conceptual thought, however, requires symbolic verbal language that moves with great speed and agility. The faster the human communicates, however, the more he seems to lose touch with the inner skills of the silent communicator. Human communication is becoming less effective as we
abandon the insight that the horse continues to develop.
Empathy + Honesty + Intention + Focus = Communication
Horses use body language and a small array of verbal signals to communicate. They are keen
listeners, astute observers, and respect feel. By rapidly computing what they hear, see, and
feel, they make a judgment and never second guess themselves. Since they have no concept of deception, they neither attempt to deceive nor can they be easily deceived.
When the human being attempts to communicate across the silent gap, species to species,
with the horse, the human is dramatically introduced to the horse's natural keen inner vision
that, for the most part, humans do not possess. Perhaps for the first time, the human senses his difficulty in seeing and experiencing reality because of his defective inner
vision and his unwillingness to correct it.
